Kris & Kelita – April 20 [Punta Cana, Dominican Republic)

We all gathered at the Hilton near the Halifax International Airport on Saturday night.  For many, the party had already started!  For Dave and I, we weren’t quite sure how we were going to make it a whole 8 full days without Levi.  At 2:30am we all met down in the lobby to start the process of making it onto our direct 6am flight to Punta Cana.  It was snowing in Halifax that morning which held us up for nearly two hours waiting to be de-iced.  When we stepped off the plane in Punta Cana, however, we all felt a little overdressed with our jeans and sweaters.  A relatively short while later, we arrived at our incredible all-inclusive resort, the Bavaro Princess.  It was easy to pick us pasty white folk out as the newest arrivals.

Tuesday, the day of Kris & Kelita’s wedding ended up bringing some rain showers and their plans of being married in the beachside gazebo were moved under cover near the lobby.  Disappointing, sure, but that’s just a minor detail for a couple who’s been in love since high school.  As the rain held off for a few minutes following their ceremony, we did a few group shots before being rained out again and we all headed down to a delicious and relaxing dinner.  Later that evening, it was dancing time…. and ohhhh was there dancing!

Since we were rained out the day of their wedding, Kris & Kelita got dressed up the next night and we headed down to the beach for a few minutes before the sun set and the light was gone for the day.  Then, Kris… the Saint that he is, even agreed to make his new wife even happier by get dressed up again the next morning at 6am for a sunrise session in the ocean.

So, I suppose you’d like me to stop with all the typing and start showing some pictures?  Here’s a few handfuls of favourites…..

Kelita came prepared for her hair to win the fight against the humidity….

This is how boys get ready…

Quite possibly the craziest (in a good way!) group ever!

Yes, I can confirm that that is in fact a groomsman wearing a dress…

Kris & Kelita’s beach session the next evening…

….AND their sunrise session in the ocean the next morning….

For the obvious reasons, such as it meaning a week away with Dave in the Dominican, I’ve been counting down the days till Kris & Kelita’s wedding for months.  It ended up being so much more than just a fun week for Dave and I though.  We had an incredible week with Kris, Kelita and approx 35 of their closest friends and family in one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen.  They were all so kind and adopted us into their group from day one.  Midnight swims in the ocean, pool parties, evening lobby gatherings, countless meals, and even swimming with sharks and stingrays…. we did it all as a group and it was AWESOME.  I’m so happy to have made so many new buddies!  So, that being said, I’m just going to throw out the suggestion that we should all celebrate Kris & Kelita’s anniversaries together from now on.
