Rhéal & Sandra – Sept. 4 [ Little Shemogue, NB ]

As their wedding day got closer and closer, and people talked more and more about the effects of Hurricane Earl coming through the Maritimes that Saturday, I got a little nervous.  Ok, a lot nervous.  I assume we all did.  Rhéal & Sandra have this fabulous waterfront property along the Northumberland Strait where they planned to host their wedding celebration.  The only problem was that they were located in one of the areas that was predicted to be hit the worst by the weather.  The worry and inevitable emotions surfaced as everyone got ready and  some of the final preparations were made.  Caterers struggled to keep things dry, the tent was whipping furiously in the wind, and the rain was coming down so hard.

Those that were able to make it despite the weather joined us at the church for their ceremony.  I was amazed by how relaxed and focused they both seemed during their ceremony even though their plans for the day just weren’t coming together as they had hoped.  Following the ceremony we opened the church doors to find some relief from the storm and we were able to do some quick family photos outside before heading off with the wedding party to a local horse stable.  The skies continued to clear and we even saw some sun for a while.  As we drove out to the shore for more pictures of just the two of them, the sky grew much darker and some sprinkles began to hit the windshield.  After a few minutes there, the wind and the rain came whipping in, soaking us all.  They were amazing… such troopers.  They decided that since we were already soaked, we might as well still head over to our final location… a field near their home.  There they sat in a wet, muddy field while being poured on.  I just kept wiping the water off of my lens and continued shooting as long as they seemed content to cuddle in the storm.  It was oddly fabulous, really.

Their party was ready back in the doubly enforced tent at their home.  A feast of lobster, pork, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, salads, and a variety of fresh breads was waiting for us so we happily headed back.  In the end, everyone had a fantastic time and the day was a total success!  Congrats, Rhéal & Sandra.  You (and I) will definitely never forget that day!!
