Jay & Alicia | Sept 28-29th in Port Williams, NS

This is quite a story to tell, so I’ll start with the fact that Jay & Alicia’s wedding was originally scheduled for Sept 29th, 2013.  Then this spring, due to some personal reasons, they made the decision to bump it up to this year.  Everything was falling perfectly into place, despite the usual bumps along the way.  The forecast was looking perfect for Saturday until two days before the wedding, it took a turn for the worse.  I got a call from a very worried Alicia about the heavy rains and strong winds that were coming for their outdoor, oceanside ceremony.  We schemed for a few minutes and decided to make a two day event out of it, which was kind of fitting really because Alicia is all about the motto “Go big or go home.” I packed my bags early, loaded up my iphone with new music, and first thing the next morning, my assistant shooter, Teshia, and I headed out to Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley.  Despite a serious time crunch and some heavy construction, we arrived early to the most glorious, peaceful, oceanside property…. Alicia’s Papa’s home, which was the ceremony site.  Absolutely no detail was overlooked and the place looked amazing.  Friends and family rolled in, and despite some empty seats of those who couldn’t make it due to the last minute change of date, they had a perfect ceremony under the sunshine overlooking the ocean at a place that is so personal to Alicia…. exactly as she wanted.  It was a beautiful evening to wander around at a nearby wharf for photos, then we rushed off to an orchard as the night sky set in.  Then, on what was supposed to be the eve of their wedding, we split ways and said, “see you tomorrow!”

The next afternoon, we kind of started back at the beginning.  We arrived at a gorgeous cottage in Wolfville where the girls were getting ready for ‘Wedding DayPart 2: The Reception’ which was to be held at their favourite local restaurant, The Port, in Port Williams.  The rain was pouring down outside and we were all so relieved that we had made the last minute shuffle of events.  Before heading over to dinner, we grabbed some umbrellas and headed out onto the street for a few pictures, and then over near the dykes that the reception site overlooks.  Teshia and I entered the restaurant and were so impressed by how amazing everything looked.  This woman knows how to pull together a wedding!  The evening was spent enjoying great food, heartfelt speeches, and of course, some dancing.

We were so honoured to be a part of BOTH of your wedding days, Jay & Alicia!  Here are some of my favourite images…
